Sumatra island Weather
WEATHER
Because Sumatra is right next to the equator, Sumatra's climate is very tropical. This means that one minute the weather is hot and humid, the next it rains. However, in general, throughout the year, daytime temperatures remain between 70 and 86 degrees. Like all tropical climates, Sumatra has a rainy season and a dry season. The dry season lasts from May to September. But the rainy season is more difficult to define and predict.
In the northern part of the island, rain begins in October. It was the wettest there during December and January. However, in the South, the rain began in November and peaked around January and February. Thus, travelers need to know where they plan to travel and when, and pack it properly (to be safe, people must pack their raincoats without a care).
The most time to travel is in the dry season, between May and September. Because the rainy season can hamper some travel options (eg depending on whether someone is in Sumatra for hiking or kayaking, etc.), it is safest to come when the weather is mild enough.
