 Gunung Leuser National Park or GUNUNG LAUSER in local said, is a forest that was established in 1980 by the Indonesian government as a nature reserve.


 This tour is also one of the lungs of the world and since 2004 it has been registered at UNESCO as one of the places used as a world heritage site (Biosphere Reserve).


Gunung Leuser National Park is located at an altitude of 3404 meters above sea level.  The temperature of the national park is around 21 ° C - 28 ° C.  Gunung Leuser National Park stands on an area of ​​1,094,692 hectares.  This place is one of the national parks that was visited by one Hollywood actor named Leonardo Dicaprio.

Not only that this National Park also stores a wealth of tropical fruits such as durian, rambutan, mango, orange, avocado, guava, and papaya.


Around 1920, a researcher who was also a Dutch geologist named F.C.  Van Heurn was given permission to conduct research and also explore the natural wealth of oil and minerals in Aceh by the Dutch Colonial Government.


During his research he did not find a large mineral content, but he met many traditional leaders in the LAUSER area.  Local customary leaders wanted the Dutch Colonial Government to care for the ecosystem in Mount LAUSER.  This desire was conveyed by Van Heurn to the Dutch Colonial Government, then he discussed and invited customary leaders to urge the Dutch Colonial Government to give the status of Mount Lauser to be a conservation area.


The wishes of the local people were finally realized on February 6, 1934. This could be realized due to a Tapaktuan meeting which resulted in a declaration called the "Tapaktuan Declaration".  After the meeting on July 3, 1934, Mount Leuser Nature Reserve was formed which had an area of ​​142,800 hectares, then after that it developed into Kluet Wildlife Reserve, South Langkat Natural Reserve, West Langkat Natural Reserve, and Sekundur Nature Reserve.


Then during the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, precisely on December 10, 1976 the Kappi Wildlife Reserve was formed, located in Southeast Aceh with an area of ​​150,000 hectares.  Then after that it was followed by the establishment of the Gunung Leuser Nature Conservation Center.  After a few years precisely on March 6, 1980 the existence of the Gunung Leuser National Park was inaugurated by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
