Orangutan & Batangtoru Forest Ecosystem
The world sympathizes with the Batangtoru Forest Ecosystem.
As a result of the construction of a power plant in this region, its flora & fauna ecosystem is threatened with sustainability, including orangutans. Orangutans are an important link in the rainforest ecosystem, because they spread seeds that are useful for the survival of forests through the forest food they consume. Orangutans are a species Umbrella for hundreds of other species of plants and animals.
According to the Environment and Forestry Research and Development Center (BP2LHK) Aek Nauli, the Tapanuli Orangutan population in 2017 is estimated to be 495 - 577 individuals, or an increase from 2009 which only 337 - 421 individuals. The Batangtoru forest ecosystem area is in three districts, namely Tapsel, Tapteng and Taput or in Three Districts namely Batangtoru, Marancar, and Sipirok covering an ecosystem of 275 thousand hectares.
